Other Ways to Give

Matching Gifts

Through corporate matching gift programs, donors may double or sometimes even triple their gifts! Many employers sponsor matching gift programs and will match charitable contributions made by their employees. To find out if your company has a matching gift policy, enter your employer’s name below. If your company matches, you may be able to access the forms directly through the search. Or you may visit your company’s Human Resources department to get more information.

For assistance, please contact Debbie McKinney, Advancement Manager at (240) 283-3231.

Giving Options | United Way and CFC

United Way, Combined Federal Charities (CFC), and America’s Charities campaign donors may designate Our Lady of Good Counsel High School as a recipient of their contributions. Our designation number for United Way is #8478 and CFC is #22486. Please let us know if you are contributing this way so that we can properly credit and acknowledge your gift. We are not provided with your name by any of these organizations.

For questions or to provide your donation information, please contact Julie Potter, Chief Advancement Officer, (240) 283-3234.

Gifts of Appreciated Securities

Gifts of stock can be the best way for many people to make a gift to Good Counsel, particularly if the securities have grown in value. Typically, a sale of appreciated securities results in a tax on the amount that the securities have increased. This means that you are allowed to keep only a portion of the profit. If you donate these appreciated securities to Good Counsel, you may avoid the capital gains tax while also earning a charitable deduction on the full value of the securities, even the portion that has increase in value. Charitable deductions are calculated based on the mean of the high and low price of the shares on the date the transfer is made into our account.

You can direct your gift to a specific purpose such as the Fund for Good Counsel, the Performing Arts Center, or toward scholarship endowment.

If a gift of appreciate securities makes sense to you, please contact Julie Potter, Chief Advancement Officer, at (240) 283-3234.

*Please note new stock transfer instructions beginning July 1, 2018 with Charles Schwab as broker.

  • It is extremely important that you contact us before you authorize the transfer. Our broker will only be informed that securities have been received, and he will not know who donated them.
  • Do NOT sell the securities and give the proceeds to the school. You will not be eligible for any tax benefits if you sell the securities.

Planned Giving

A planned giving strategy allows you to put your assets to work for Good Counsel while you and your loved ones all benefit at the same time. We welcome planned gifts in the form of bequests through a will or trust or within an estate plan; gifts of retirement accounts (such as IRAs); charitable gift annuities; charitable remainder trusts; charitable lead trusts; life insurance; and non-cash assets such as real estate. We suggest you consult your attorney or financial advisor before making a planned gift of any type.

Donors who make a bequest or any other type of planned gift to Good Counsel become members of the Legacy Society. These individuals and families demonstrate remarkable foresight and generosity in ensuring their legacy through a planned gift to Good Counsel.

Your membership in the Legacy Society involves no dues or obligations, but it does allow us to thank you and recognize you for the plans you have made, and it may inspire generosity in others.

Memorial and Tribute Gifts

Memorial gifts offer an especially meaningful way to honor and remember a family member, former teacher or coach or friends while supporting Good Counsel. Those enrolled in our Memorial Giving Program are remembered in the prayers of the school community.

When you have the occasion to celebrate a birthday, graduation, anniversary or other significant milestone, a gift to Good Counsel may be the perfect tribute.

Whether you make a memorial or tribute gift, your donation will support the scholarship fund to provide need-based tuition assistance unless another program or fund has been selected by the family. Your gift will help to advance our mission of educating young men and women to excel, serve, and love.

To make a Memorial or Tribute gift, please complete the form below. If you have any questions, please email Debbie McKinney, Advancement Manager, or call (240) 283-3231.
