Freshman Strength & Conditioning Orientation
FOR INCOMING STUDENT ATHLETES ONLY - The conditioning orientation is for all incoming student athletes who wish to train in the weight room during the summer at Good Counsel before their freshman year. This is a great way to get a head start on your high school athletic career. Coach Saar will teach proper spotting and lifting techniques in all core lifts and assisted lifts and provide speed training and flexibility. This class is not mandatory however, athletes must complete a 4-day session before being permitted to join in summer strength and conditioning workouts. It is NOT MANDATORY to play sports at GC.
- Age: incoming 9th graders
- Dates Offered (choose ONE session)
Session 1: June 10-13 | 4:00-6:00 pm (Arrive at 3:30 pm on June 10th to check-in.)
Session 2: June 17-20 | 12-2 pm (Arrive at 11:30 am on June 17th to check-in.)
Session 3: June 24-27 | 12-2 pm (Arrive at 11:30 am on June 24th to check-in.)
- IMPORTANT: Workouts will be 2 hours long and participants must show up 10 minutes early each day
- Fee: $250
- Class size is limited. First come, first serve.

REQUIREMENTS: Participants must have an approved Magnus form before participating in this activity. Additionally, if the student requires emergency medicine, it must be handed in before participating in this activity.
WHAT TO BRING:
- Individual/personal towel - mark towel with name
- Individual/personal fully filled water bottle - mark bottle with name
- Pair of cleats and running shoes
- Change of clothes if the student requires treatment in the Athletic Training Room
- You will not be able to receive treatment if you do not have a change of clothes
- We suggest that individuals bring their own drawstring bag to keep with them
- Students need to wear an appropriate shirt and shorts for sessions
- Shirts are to remain on at all times while inside

Orientation Director: Skylar Saar, Good Counsel’s Head Strength and Conditioning Coach
Coach Skylar Saar is a certified strength and conditioning specialist (NSCA) with a degree from James Madison University in exercise science and Master's degree from California University of Pennsylvania. He has spent the last 19 years as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at Good Counsel. He has worked as a strength and conditioning coach with the University of Maryland football team and several Olympic sports at the University of Minnesota.
