Freshman Strength & Conditioning Orientation

For Incoming Student-Athletes Only

The conditioning orientation is required for all incoming student-athletes that wish to train during the summer at Good Counsel prior to their freshman year. This is a great way to get a head start on your high school athletic career! Coach Saar will teach proper spotting and lifting technique in all core lifts and assisted lifts and provide speed training and flexibility. This class is not mandatory, however, athletes must complete four sessions before being permitted to join in summer workouts prior to their freshman year. (IT IS NOT MANDATORY TO PLAY SPORTS AT GC).

Orientation Director: Skylar Saar, Good Counsel’s Head Strength and Conditioning Coach
Coach Skylar Saar is a certified strength and conditioning specialist (NSCA) with a degree from James Madison University in exercise science and masters from California University of Pennsylvania. He has spent the last 15 years as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at Good Counsel. He has worked as a strength and conditioning coach with the University of Maryland football team and several Olympic sports at the University of Minnesota.

  • Class size is limited to 50 per session. First come, first serve (REGISTER ONLINE)

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1.Does my child need to complete this orientation in order to play sports at Good Counsel?
A: No. This orientation has no bearing on being eligible to participate or tryout for a team at GC. However, if your child would like to train at GC during the summer before their freshman year they MUST complete the orientation.

2.Once my child completes the orientation is there another fee to be able to use the weight room for the rest of the summer?
A: No. There are no more fees required to train at Good Counsel with the strength staff for the rest of their time as a Falcon.

3.Does my child need to attend all three weeks of the orientation to be eligible to train at Good Counsel for the remainder of the summer?
A: No. Incoming freshmen only need to complete one session to be eligible to train at Good Counsel for the remainder of the summer.

4.Once my child completes the course when can my child come in to use the weight room?
A: They will be given a schedule for the remaining of the summer of when they can attend workouts. Workouts are offered for all student-athletes at the following times during the summer:

Monday, Tuesday, & Thursday:
7-9am: Olympic sports (all sports other than football)
9-11:30am: Football
4-6:30pm: Olympic sports and Football

Friday:
9am-12pm: Football

5.What happens if my child is recovering from an injury and cannot fully participate in all the activities of the orientation?
A: You can either change your orientation session to one of the other available weeks or your child can participate in the activities that they are cleared to participate in and still earn credit for the orientation. This will allow them to join the workouts later in the summer when they are recovered from the injury.

6.Our family is out of town or unavailable during all of the sessions. Can my child still complete the orientation at a later date during the summer?
A: No. the orientation sessions are only available during the three weeks listed. If your child is unavailable to attend any of the three sessions they will not be eligible to train at Good Counsel this summer and will have to wait until the fall to begin training.
