Applying to Good Counsel

Thank you for your interest in Our Lady of Good Counsel High School.

Please review this information to help guide you through the application process for the upcoming 2019-2020 school year.

Get Started Here

  1. Students must complete a Good Counsel online admissions application and submit it to Good Counsel with a non-refundable $60.00 application fee by Friday, December 13, 2019.

  2. Students must take the High School Placement Test in their parochial school. Students who miss the test must make arrangements with the Catholic Schools Office to make-up the test.

  3. The Archdiocese sends choice cards to parochial schools. Students use the card to select three high schools. These three high schools receive the complete transcript from the student's elementary school. The transcript is comprised of report cards, all testing results, and recommendations from the principal and teachers.

  4. The Good Counsel Admissions Office reviews each student's complete transcript when rendering a decision. Archdiocesan students do not submit the transcript release and recommendation forms to their school.

NOTE: Students applying to the Ryken Program must also follow the additional procedures outlined here.

  1. Students must complete a Good Counsel online admissions application and submit it to Good Counsel with a non-refundable $60.00 application fee.

  2. Parents must request in writing from the student's current school a complete transcript with grades and testing information covering the student's previous academic year and the first semester of the student's current academic year. A form is included in the GC Admissions Packet or online.

  3. Students must have teacher recommendations from their current Math and English teachers. A form is included in the GC Admissions Packet or online. Transfer students are admitted on a space available basis.

The mid-year transfer application deadline is November 15, 2019. The application deadline for fall transfers is March 20, 2020.

Admissions Criteria

Applicants to Our Lady of Good Counsel High School are evaluated for admission based upon
the following criteria:

  • Submission of the Good Counsel Application Form with application fee
  • Appropriate ability as demonstrated on the Archdiocesan Entrance Exam (HSPT)
  • High level of academic achievement in the seventh grade and first quarter of the eighth grade
  • A demonstrated sincere desire to attend Good Counsel
  • Recommendations of principals and/or teachers
  • Satisfactory disciplinary and attendance history
  • In person interview with a member of the Good Counsel community.

Our Lady of Good Counsel High School reserves the right to revoke acceptance at any time for academic and/or disciplinary reasons.
