If you play an instrument of sing, this is the volunteer opportunity for you! We have a band that plays pop music, with gigs throughout the area. At present we need folks who play keyboard, electric guitar (especially base), brass, etc. as well as managers and roadies. GREAT WAY TO EARN SSL HOURS!

Special requirements: understanding and empathy for individuals with developmental disabilities.

 

Must be high school juniors and/or seniors or college students, preferably with previous hands-on interaction with children with special needs (needs references), responsible.

Receptionist Intern Program

To cover front desks at various sites.  Duties include answering multi-line phone/directing calls, greeting visitors, preparing mail for postal pick-up, supervising use of copy machine, and assisting with copying as necessary.

 

Training will be provided for duties listed above and time blocks can be arranged between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm. 

 

Volunteers must be mature, courteous, organized, personable and resourceful, have a clear speaking voice and proficiency in the English language.

 

Volunteers must be at least 15 years of age.

Administrative Intern Program

Flexible hours throughout the summer between 9:00 and 4:00 pm.

Assist with office duties at various sites throughout the county.  Could include answering the phone/s, working on databases, filing, shredding, copying, and other clerical duties as assigned.

 

Training will be provided for duties listed above and time blocks can be arranged between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm. 

 

Volunteers must be organized, mature, have a clear speaking voice and proficiency in the English language.  Computer skills a plus.

 

Volunteers must be at least 15 years of age.

Various Leadership Positions

 

 

Flexible hours as planned by each group.

 

Volunteers will get credit for all hours related to the development and completion of the project of activity.

 

 

These positions are for individuals with demonstrated leadership skills, or a willingness to take on/learn these skills by developing, various summer projects/activities.

 

Some might include organizing committees on creative pursuits, like producing a summer Jr. Vol. newsletter, putting together a singing/dancing/drama/ and /or musical group to perform at various Arc sites (i.e., children’s/vocational), developing a fundraising event, planning various Jr. Volunteer summer get-togethers, such as an arts and crafts night, or  movie night, etc.  Projects/activities are only Limited by the imagination of the group and/or any organizational restrictions that might apply.

 

Volunteers will be responsible for creating, planning, organizing, implementing, managing, and evaluating all aspects of the project form beginning to end and will work under the supervision of the volunteer office.  Volunteers must have good planning skills, imagination, and a willingness to take on responsibility and see a project through.

Sunday, June 22-Saturday, June 28 Muscular Dystophy Association Summer Camp Volunteers are needed to be responsible for the safety and well-being of a camper with whom they are paired. They help a team of veteran volunteers, medical team and MDA staff to lead campers (aged 6-21). Friendship with campers is what makes this a great experience! Volunteers can earn 120 service hours. Monday, June 23 to Friday, August 1 The Treatment and Learning Centers Summer Programs for children ages 3-13 who have special needs in the areas of speech, language, perceptual motor, and/ or academic development. half and full day programs are offered. Marvatots and Teens Gymnastics and the Arc of Mont. Co. Summer Camps Don't miss this great opportunity to work with kids! Volunteer to be a buddy to a young gymnast with special needs during this fun-filled camp and earn 25 community service hours each week. Ruth Rales Comcast Kids Reading Network needs volunteers to help improve the reading skills of children at or below a second grade reading level. Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary in Poolesville needs volunteers to help with feeding and caring for farm animals and to help with clerical/office duties. Sports Plus is a program for children with mild autism and other developmental disabilities between the ages 5 and 14, to help them build physical skills, have fun, and be part of a team. This program has just been expanded to Howard County!

The volunteer coordinator is looking for help in areas including recreation and the hair salon. We are called to visit those who are lonely or sick. Student Conservation Association DC Conservation Leadership Corps, (CLC) a multi year conservation service and leadership program for freshman, sophomores and juniors enrolled in high school.  

  • First year CLC members will participate in a series of weekend conservation service projects beginning in January.   During the summer, CLC members will receive a scholarship to participate on a SCA Conservation Crew for 21 – 35 days in one of America’s National Parks, Forests, and Wildlife Refuges completing essential conservation projects. 
  • Second year CLC members will gain valuable experience in leadership and community organizing thru planning and implementing their own conservation project in the Washington DC area.

Join the Teen Adaptive Response Unit (TARU) for Montgomery County.
