Retreats
Every year, every student is provided with a retreat opportunity as a requirement for the first three years and as an option for the senior year. The Freshman Community Day, which will be held on Friday, October 29th, is to build community both within the incoming class as well as with upperclass leaders, and to introduce the freshmen to the Xaverian history and charism. The Sophomore Day of Service is a one school day experience, integrating faith and action. Students participate in service at various local placements, concluding the day with reflection and prayer. The three-day Junior retreat is often named as the peak experience by many graduates and explores relationships with self, God, and others. Senior Retreat, the only optional retreat of the four-year program, challenges students to consider the next steps in their lives of faith. Please consult the school calendar for specific retreat dates.
The school considers retreats to be an essential part of our overall educational process, that in terms of importance, retreats take precedence over all sports and extra-curricular activities. Should a student desire to switch his/her retreat date due to a serious conflict with an athletic or personal commitment, the request must be made by a parent in writing no later than four weeks prior to the scheduled retreat for sophomores and no later than eight weeks prior to the scheduled retreat for juniors.
The L.I.F.E. program is also part of the Retreat program. Standing for "Living in Faith Experience," it is designed as both a preparation for and follow up to the Junior retreat. L.I.F.E. is held once a month a weeknight from 7-9 PM at school and is open to all juniors that have made their junior retreat and all seniors. The meeting itself is a mini-retreat, consisting of prayer, icebreakers, talks, and small group sharing. Each month's meeting has a designated theme, such as Friendship, Stress, or Forgiveness. The program provides a positive way for students to deal with relevant issues in a safe, supportive environment.
