Instrumental Music

If music be the food of love, play on...

Whether a student plays woodwind, brass, percussion or strings, and regardless of their level of experience, there is an instrumental ensemble at Good Counsel that caters to their talent and ambition. From the Wind Ensemble to Symphonic Band and from Bach to pop music, GC students enjoy a plethora of opportunities to learn a variety of disciplines, styles and techniques.

Good Counsel is the only school in the WCAC that boasts a Marching Band. The Marching Falcons play at all varsity home football games and boost school spirit. They perform both pregame and half time shows, and also play throughout the games.

The ensembles have three formal concerts at Good Counsel each year, the Fall Instrumental Concert, the Christmas Concert, and the Spring Instrumental Concert. They may also perform during Mass and at various competitions and festivals around the country.

Advanced Percussion

Students in the Advanced Percussion class serve as the percussion section for the Wind Ensemble as well as function as a percussion ensemble. When not in rehearsal with the band, these percussionists learn advanced skills on timpani, mallet, snare drum, and auxiliary percussion instruments.

Marching Band

The Marching Falcons, under the direction of Mr. Tom Kramer ’07, is known as ‘The Pride of GC.’ ‘The Pride’ performs at all home varsity football games, including playoff and championship games if GC participates. Our goal is to energize and motivate the players on the field, as well as the crowd. Performances at each game include a Pre-Game show, a Half-Time show, and performing in-between plays and quarters in the stands. No audition is necessary to play a wind instrument in this ensemble, however students interested in performing in the drumline must audition. If you have any questions please contact Mr. Kramer at TKramer@olgchs.org. Otherwise we look forward to seeing you at the games!
