Application Procedures for Parochial School Students

NOTE: Students applying to the Ryken Program must also follow the additional procedures outlined in the Ryken information sheet.

  • Students must complete a Good Counsel admissions application form and submit it to Good Counsel with a non-refundable $50.00 application fee by December 14, 2007.
  • Students must take the Entrance Examination in their parochial school. Any student who misses the test must make arrangements with the Catholic Schools Office at 301-853-4587 to retake the test.
  • In December, the Archdiocese sends choice cards to parochial schools. Students use a choice card to select two high schools. These two high schools receive the complete transcript from the student's elementary school. The transcript comprises seventh and eighth grade report cards, results of all testing done at the elementary school, and recommendations from the Principal and eighth grade teachers at the school.
  • The Good Counsel Admissions Office reviews each student's complete transcript as part of the acceptance procedure.


Application Procedures for Non-Parochial School Students

  • Students must complete a Good Counsel admissions application form and submit it to Good Counsel with a non-refundable $50.00 application fee by December 14, 2007.
  • Students must make arrangements with the Catholic Schools Office to sit for the Entrance Examination Test. Register online at www.adw.org/education/noncatholicform.asp .  Should you have any questions you may call the Catholic Schools Office at 301- 853- 4587.
  • At the end of the first quarter, parents must request a complete transcript in writing from the student's current school with grades and testing covering the student's previous two years. Forms are included in the GC Application Packet or online.
  • Student's must have at least two recommendations from their current Math and English teacher. A form is included in the GC Admissions Packet.
  • The Good Counsel Admissions Office reviews each student's complete transcript as part of the acceptance procedure.


Admissions Criteria

Applicants to Our Lady of Good Counsel High School are evaluated for admission based upon the following criteria:
  • Submission of the Good Counsel Application Form with application fee
  • Appropriate ability as demonstrated on the Archdiocesan Entrance Exam
  • High level of academic achievement in the seventh grade and first quarter of the eighth grade.
  • A demonstrated sincere desire to attend Good Counsel
  • Recommendations of Principals and/or teachers
  • Satisfactory disciplinary and attendance history
Our Lady of Good Counsel High School reserves the right to revoke acceptance at any time for academic and/or disciplinary reasons.

Application for Transfer Student

  • Students must complete a Good Counsel admissions application form and submit it to Good Counsel with a non-refundable $50.00 application fee.
  • Parents must request in writing from the student's current school a complete transcript with grades and testing information covering the student's previous academic year and the first three quarters of the student's current academic year. A form is included in the GC Admissions Packet or online.
  • Students must have two teacher recommendations from their current Math and English teachers. A form is included in the GC Admissions Packet or online.
  • Transfer students are admitted on a space available basis.
