Religion
Our Lady of Good Counsel High School maintains a religious studies curriculum which offers an individual encounter with Christ through community, liturgy, spiritual exploration, intellectual development, and service to others.
The Religion Studies Curriculum
- Freshman Year (Honors and Standard)
Introduces students to the study of religion and Catholicism through a thematic survey of the major ideas governing life in the Church, culminating with a study of the human person's sexuality and its relation to the whole person as well as relationships arising from our sexual nature. The second semester examines the Hebrew Scriptures through a critical and catechetical study of major themes. - Sophomore Year (Honors and Standard)
Introduces students to the world of Jesus of Nazareth as the Incarnation of God in Christian faith. The second semester traces the history of Christianity from its foundations through the present with a special emphasis on the major religious themes which guide this historical experience. - Junior Year
Introduces students to the major themes in Catholicism which are in dialogue with other major religious traditions of the world. The second semester focuses on the nature of the human person and the ideas which govern Catholic moral and ethical thought. - Senior Year
Guides students through a topical application of Catholic Christianity's moral teaching to specific issues encountered in the modern world. We examine human relationships and marriage, the peaceful transformation of human attitudes, and many current issues of justice. The course informs students' minds, challenges their attitudes, and attempts to provide them with a framework for encountering the world beyond high school in a faith-filled, meaningful way.
